Hi Penny, I haven’t done it myself so I’m not sure what that process involves, but I’d say that if the wool feels a little greasy or hasn’t been washed thoroughly then it is worth giving it a gentle soapy wash. The oils act as a barrier that prevents the dyes from binding.
Great – many thanks Louise. I’m in the process of making an iron mordant – how long would you suggest that it should be left before I can start. It’s looking quite dark now.

Hi Penny, as soon as the mordant begins changing colour it can be used, so if it is looking dark then it should be great.
