Jumped straight to this because it sounded so super cool!! And it is!!!! THANK YOU again and again Louise for your knowledge, care and inspiring words!! It’s been a joy to create here with everyone xx
I am very thankful to you for offering this course in such an accessible way during such turbulent times. It has propelled me earlier than I would have, back into one of my favorite crafts. And more importantly, it gave me something to look forward to and distract. Thank you ❤️
Thank you Louise! your an inspiration. Forgot to mention before that I purchased your lovely eBook Plant Poetry last year!, its a great reference especially with this course. Much love. xx
Thank you so much Louise – this has been wonderful. What did you use in the dye bath for these moons to get this lovely dark colour and did you leave it in there any longer than usual? Thank you x
I use eucalyptus bark and iron and I just left it til it was as dark as I wanted – I think I ended up cooking the bundles for 2 hours, then let them sit in the dye overnight
Obrigado Louise!! Você é uma inspiração… podemos fazer trabalhos lindos com o que temos no momento!!! Que a sua generosidade retorne para você em alegrias!!?
Acorns with iron are fabulous for dark greys, and some other barks and seedpods too. It depends what you have around you. Adding iron will darken any colour. Some people also do the moons with indigo which looks wonderful.
Dear Louise, Thank you so much for the class! I haven’t had time to try many techniques YET. I am a textile artist & herbalist and have been wanting to learn about natural dyes for some time. I look forward to trying many of the techniques this summer as I find time. I am also looking forward to seeing what new things I can learn from old plant friends! Becka
My pleasure Becka! Eco-printing sounds like the perfect combination of your experience with textile art and herbalism, a natural progression. And many medicinal plants like St John’s wort are fabulous for eco-printing with.
St. John’s wort can produce a range of colours including red depending on how you prepare the dye bath and whether you use the plant tops or just the flowers. Jenny Dean has some good instructions for this in her Wild Colour book.
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Louise for generously making this course available It has set me on a journey wherein I am completely immersed eco printing on an almost daily basis. I certainly see the world through different eyes and the work has clot me grounded in a time of pandemic. Forever grateful and will purchase another of your courses when I complete your social media course, ?Lesa
Thank you for your beautiful message Lesa, it has brightened my day. So happy to think of you eco-printing most days and connecting with nature and creativity ??
Hi Julia. Thanks for your lovely message. I’m glad this course can give you a little bit of joy in hard times. The dark grey was from eucalyptus bark and iron mordant. You could also try acorns or logwood plus iron to get other dark shades.

I love the moons and can’t wait to try this method. What else could you use in the dye bath to get a nice dark colour?

I know that Saint johns wort tinctures are bright red, is the dye also red? This is lovely thank you!
