I don’t think heating them would necessarily work, because we are trying to reduce the level of water soluble tannins and I don’t think heat would make them leach out faster. You could always try it though. Just be careful because heating them will bring the dye out into the water and you don’t want to get rid of all the dye.
Hello, I live in the desert, our water comes from underground catchments and is full of natural calcium, would this make a difference to the leaching of tannins from leaves?
Hi Marilyn, I don’t think the calcium would affect the soaking, but if you aren’t getting great results you could try adding some white vinegar to the soaking leaves.

Is there any way to quicken the soak by using a low heat or something?
